Morehead State vs Eastern Illinois 12/29/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Eastern Illinois Panthers and the Morehead State Eagles meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Ellis Johnson Arena. Eastern Illinois is 2-11 on the year. The Panthers lost to Ball State in their last game. As for the Eagles, they’re 8-5 so far and fresh off a win over IUPUI. Eastern Illinois won just one of their first eight games, losing to Northwestern, Saint Louis, Central Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Albany, Evansville and Northern Illinois. Since the last win it’s been losses to Missouri, Butler, Western Illinois and Ball State. 

In the Ball State loss, the Panthers were down by just one point at halftime. Eastern Illinois fell behind 38-19 from there in a 75-55 blowout loss. Kejuan Clements led the team on 17 points and four rebounds. 

Over on the Morehead State side, they went 6-4 over their first 10 games with wins over KY Christian, Transylvania, Arkansas State, UMKC, GA Southern and Presbyterian. After a loss to Xavier the Eagles beat Alice Lloyd and IUPUI. 

In the IUPUI matchup on December 21, the Eagles scored 42 points in the first half and 38 more from there for a nice 80-52 win. Tray Hollowell was tops on 17 points, and Johni Broome doubled up on 13 points and 11 boards. 

The Eagles are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 at home and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS win. Morehead State is 1-6 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. 

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 5-15 ATS in their last 20 road games and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 Wednesday games. EIU is 19-40 ATS in their last 59 overall. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Morehead State. The Eagles have certainly posted some dud games this year, but they’re playing better lately. Morehead State has hit 71 or more points in four of their last five games as well, going 3-2 in that stretch. 

As for the Panthers, they’ve been at 55 points or fewer in each of their last four games so needless to say they’re not generating much offense. It’s going to take a big push for Eastern Illinois to keep up in this one, and I don’t think they’ll get to a cover.
