Syracuse vs Cornell 12/29/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Cornell Big Red and the Syracuse Orange meet Wednesday in college basketball action from the Carrier Dome. Cornell is 8-2 so far this year. The Big Red lost to Virginia Tech in their last game. As for Syracuse, they’re 6-5 this season and coming off a win over Brown. The Orange were originally going to face Georgia Tech in this game, but ultimately had to find a new opponent. Cornell hit a four-game win streak this year before losing to Penn State in late November. After wins over St. Francis PA, Canisius, Coppin State and Keuka, the Big Red lost their last game to Virginia Tech back on December 8. 

In the Virginia Tech game, the Red were outscored 47-31 in the first half and 46-29 from there for a 93-60 blowout loss. Cornell’s leading scorers were Kobe Dickison and Guy Ragland, each with 11 points and a combed three rebounds. 

Over on the Syracuse side, they went 3-3 over their first six games this year with wins over Lafayette, Drexel and Arizona State. Since then it’s been a 3-2 run for the Orange with victories versus Indiana, Florida State and Brown. 

In the Brown game on Monday, the Orange posted a six-point edge at halftime. Syracuse went on a 55-30 run from there in a 93-62 victory. Buddy Boeheim was tops on 28 points and five rebounds, while Joseph Girard put up 15 points and seven assists. 

Syracuse is 5-17 ATS in their last 22 at home versus a team with a winning road record and the under is 6-1 in their last seven Wednesday games. The over is 5-2 in Syracuse’s last seven as a home favorite. 

Meanwhile, the Red are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 5-1 ATS in their last six Wednesday games. Cornell is 8-1 ATS in their last nine overall.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Syracuse. The Orange have faced some pretty tough teams in their past six games, but during comparable matchups they’ve been scoring well. Syracuse has hit 68 or more points in five of their last seven outings. 

As for Cornell, they had a pretty flat game against Virginia Tech but overall they’ve done well this season. I like the Big Red to hang around for most of the game here before Syracuse pulls off a cover.
