The Towson Tigers and the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Bob Carpenter Center. Towson is 9-5 so far this year and coming off a loss to Drexel. Towson hit a 6-4 run to open the season with losses to Monmouth, Pitt, San Francisco and Ohio State mixed in. After wins over Coppin State, UNC Greensboro and Navy, the Tigers lost to Drexel on Monday.
In the Drexel matchup, the Tigers were outscored 36-32 in the second half on the way to a 65-61 loss. Towson’s top scorer was Charles Thompson with 18 points and six rebounds. Both Cameron Holden and Terry Nolan added 14 points apiece.
Over on the Delaware side, they began on a 9-3 run with losses to Davidson, Oakland and Temple. The Hens would then lose to Iona and UNC Wilmington before a tight win over Charleston in their last game on December 31.
Matched up against Charleston, the Hens had a two-point halftime lead. Delaware eventually hung on for the 67-66 victory. Jameer Nelson led the team on 22 points with three rebounds. Both Kevin Anderson and Ryan Allen scored 14 points each.
The Hens are 0-4 ATS in their last four Wednesday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. The over is 5-1-1 in Delaware’s last seven Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 overall. The under is 7-2-1 in Towson’s last 10 road games.
PICK: I’m probably going to try Delaware here. The Hens have had some tricky games over their last three outings, with mixed results. Delaware has been at 68 points or fewer in three of their last five games, but generally they’re a decent scoring team.
As for Towson, they can score well when the matchup is right also so they should be able to keep up most of the way here. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one as a higher-total game, and I like the Hens to bang out a cover/win.
