The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet Thursday in college basketball action from the Cajundome. Arkansas State is currently 10-3 this year. The Red Wolves beat Georgia Southern in their last game. As for Louisiana, they’re 7-5 so far and fresh off a win versus Coastal Carolina. Arkansas State posted a 7-3 record over their first 10 games this year, losing to Illinois, Morehead State and Texas Tech. The Red Wolves have won three straight over Air Force, Lyon and Georgia Southern since then.
In the Georgia Southern game, the Red Wolves posted a 47-34 run in the second half on the way to a 74-56 win. Leading scorer Norchad Omier doubled on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Both Marquis Eaton and Desi Sills added 15 points apiece.
Over on the Louisiana side, they went 5-3 over their first eight this year with losses to Indiana, Marshall and Jackson State. After losses to LA Tech and Houston, the Cajuns took out Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina in their next pair.
In the Coastal Carolina game, the Cajuns nearly blew a 37-29 halftime lead but persevered in a 65-64 victory. Jordan Brown finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Kobe Julien added 16 points with five boards.
The Cajuns are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 5-0-1 ATS in the last six overall. Louisiana is 4-1 ATS in the last five Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Red Wolves are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 Thursday games. The under is 12-5 in AR State’s last 17 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Arkansas State. Outside of the understandable loss to a good Texas Tech team last month, the Red Wolves have played well lately. Arkansas State has hit 68 or more points in each of their last six wins, and they’ve scored a combined 162 points in their last pair alone. Louisiana has hit some pretty solid points totals themselves lately, but they’ve also given up big numbers to solid offensive teams this year. This should be an interesting matchup overall but I like Arkansas State a little better cover-wise.
