The Utah State Aggies will travel to Moby Arena to take on the Colorado State Rams this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.

The Utah State Aggies improved to 10-5 on the season after defeating the New Mexico Lobos, 90-87 (OT), this past Saturday. Utah State was able to fight back from a 42-27 halftime deficit to force OT and took the lead for good after a pair of FT’s by Steven Ashworth gave the Aggies an 88-84 lead with :19 seconds left in OT. Utah State shot 55.0% from the field & 25.0% from beyond the arc while allowing New Mexico to shoot 44.6% from the field & 50.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Aggies was Justin Bean who had a double-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, & 4 steals.

On the season, Utah State is averaging 78.1 ppg on 48.7% shooting from the field. The Aggies are averaging 8.9 three-pointers per game on 36.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Utah State has been led by Justin Bean (19.9 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.9 spg), Brandon Horvath (13.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.5 apg), Brock Miller (8.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.3 apg), & Rylan Jones (7.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1.7 spg).

Defensively, Utah State is allowing their opponents to average 69.4 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Aggies have a rebound margin of 3.8 and a turnover margin of -0.2.

The Colorado State Rams suffered their first loss of the season and dropped to 11-1 on the year after being defeated by the San Diego State Aztecs, 79-49, this past Saturday. Colorado State trailed by just a 36-32 margin at halftime, however, the Rams were dominated on both ends of the court throughout the 2nd half and could not fight back after San Diego State took a 47-34 lead with 14:48 left in regulation. Colorado State shot 27.9% from the field & 15.0% from beyond the arc while allowing San Diego State to shoot 48.3% from the field & 47.1% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Rams was Isaiah Stevens who had 19 points, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal.

On the season, Colorado State is averaging 79.2 ppg on 50.3% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 39.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Colorado State has been led by David Roddy (19.5 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.1 spg), Isaiah Stevens (14.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 6.3 rpg, 1.8 spg), John Tonje (11.4 ppg, 3.1 rpg), & Dischon Thomas (7.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.3 apg).

Defensively, Colorado State is allowing their opponents to average 67.3 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of 0.8 and a turnover margin of 2.2.

The Aggies are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. Colorado State, however, are just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games on the road. The Rams are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. Mountain West opponents & 2-4 ATS in their last 6 January games.

Utah State has been led by their offense which ranks 58th in scoring offense & 21st in FG%, however, the Aggies have had some trouble keeping people off the scoreboard as they currently rank just t-199th in scoring defense. Colorado State has also been led by their offense which ranks 39th in scoring offense & 8th in FG% and come into this matchup ranked 143rd in scoring defense.

Both teams have looked a bit off over their last few games, however, it was concerning to see the Rams high-powered offense have such trouble against San Diego State last weekend. Utah State has had plenty of success against Colorado State in recent years and as I expect this game to come down to the final possession, I think the play here is to take the Aggies and the points. Good Luck!
