The Loyola Marymount Lions and the San Francisco Dons meet Thursday in college basketball action from War Memorial Gym. LMU enters this one at 7-5 so far. The Lions beat Bellarmine in their last game. As for San Francisco, they’re sitting at 14-2 on the year and are coming off a win over San Diego. LMU went 4-3 over their first seven games, taking losses to Chattanooga, Florida State and Grand Canyon. Since then it’s been a 3-2 stretch with losses to NM State and Nevada amid victories over Long Beach State, Tulsa and Bellarmine.

Matched up against Bellarmine way back on December 21, the Lions scored 31 points in the first half and 40 more from there in a 71-57 win. Tops in scoring was Joe Quintana with 28 points and four rebounds in 34 minutes of work.

Over on the San Francisco side, they went on a nice 13-1 run to start the year. The Dons’ only loss in that time was to Grand Canyon. After another loss to Loyola IL, San Francisco bounced back with an 88-73 win over San Diego.

In the San Diego matchup last weekend, the Dons jumped out to a 46-32 halftime lead and ended up with a solid 88-73 win. Khalil Shabazz put up 27 points with six rebounds, and Yauhen Massalski put up 21 points with 17 boards.

The Dons are 5-11 ATS in the last 16 at home and 0-4 ATS in their last four Thursday games. San Francisco is 9-24 ATS in their last 33 overall.

Meanwhile, the Lions are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 road games and 7-1 ATS in the last eight as a road underdog. The under is 4-0 in LMU’s last four overall.

PICK: I’m going to try San Francisco here, even though they haven’t been great ATS lately. The Dons have had a couple of relative scoring duds over their last five games, and they missed a few opportunities late versus Loyola. Still, San Francisco has generally performed pretty well this season—they’re just not blowing out comparable teams.

As for LMU, they’ve had some ups and downs this year themselves but I expect the Lions to hang around for most of the game here. Ultimately I think San Francisco can eke out the cover, though.
