The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Purdue Boilermakers meet Friday in college basketball action from Mackey Arena. Nebraska enters this one at 6-11 so far. The Cornhuskers are coming off a loss to Illinois. As for Purdue, they’re 13-2 and fresh off a win over Penn State. Nebraska went 6-7 over their first 13 games this year, beating Sam Houston, Idaho State, Southern U, Tennessee State, South Dakota and Kennesaw State. Since then it’s been losses to Ohio State, Michigan State, Rutgers and Illinois.

In Tuesday’s loss to Illinois, the Cornhuskers had a 34-31 lead at halftime. Nebraska was outscored 50-37 from there in an 81-71 loss. Top scorer Bryce McGowens posted 19 points and six rebounds. Alonzo Verge added 14 points and nine assists.

Over on the Purdue side, they began the year at 8-0 before a loss to Rutgers. It’s been a 5-1 stretch since then with a loss to Wisconsin amid wins over NC State, Butler, Incarnate Word, Nicholls State and Penn State.

In the Penn State game last weekend, the Boilermakers posted 35 points in the first half and 39 more from there in a 74-67 win. Trevion Williams led the way on 21 points with nine rebounds, and Mason Gillis posted 14 points in 25 minutes of work.

Purdue is 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games. The Boilermakers are 0-4 ATS in their last five overall.

Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall. The over is 7-3 in Nebraska’s last 10 road games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Purdue here. Probably staying away, though; that’s a thick line. The Boilermakers played a solid game against Penn State in their last outing, shooting 48.3 percent from the floor with 30 rebounds and 14 assists. Purdue has been scoring well over this 5-1 streak, with 74 or more points in each of their wins.

As for Nebraska, they haven’t been able to gain much traction lately in tough matchups. Things aren’t going to be any easier here; the Cornhuskers will have to really push to keep up on offense. I don’t think they’ll quite get there on a cover.
