The UTSA Roadrunners and the Charlotte 49ers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Halton Arena. UTSA is 7-10 on the year so far. The Roadrunners lost to Old Dominion in their last game. As for Charlotte, they’re sitting at 8-5 and coming off a win versus UTEP. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

UTSA managed to go 7-7 over the first 14 games this year with wins over Trinity TX, Denver, IUPUI, Lamar, St. Mary’s (TX), Sam Houston and DCC. It’s been three losses to Southern Miss, LA Tech and Old Dominion since then.

In Thursday’s game versus Old Dominion, the Roadrunners posted just 21 points in the first half and 30 more from there in an 83-51 blowout loss. Top scorer Erik Czumbel put up 16 points, and Jacob Germany added 12 points with seven boards.

Over on the Charlotte side, they hit a .500 run over their first 10 games with wins versus Monmouth, USC Upstate, App State, George Washington and Valparaiso. The 49ers have won their last three over MD Eastern Shore, Western Carolina and UTEP.

Matched up against UTEP on Thursday, the 49ers were out three points at the break. Charlotte managed a 34-24 run from there in a 66-53 win. Both Jahmir Young (17 points; 11 boards) and Austin Butler (12 points; 10 rebounds) doubled up for the 49ers.

The 49ers are 5-0 ATS in their last five overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four as a favorite. The over is 9-3 in Charlotte’s last 12 overall.

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners are 17-35 ATS in their last 52 road games and 0-6 ATS in the last six overall. UTSA is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Charlotte in this one. The 49ers were solid in their last game against UTEP, shooting 40 percent from the floor with 43 rebounds. There are a few things to clean up though, like the 17 turnovers and 5-of-20 (25 percent) from 3-point range. Still, It’s been a competitive five-game run for Charlotte lately. As for UTSA, they’ve struggled offensively against stouter teams and have just 114 combined points over their last pair. I don’t think the Roadrunners will be able to keep up if Charlotte gets going.
