The UTEP Miners will travel to Chartway Arena to take on the Old Dominion Monarchs this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The UTEP Miners dropped to 8-8 on the season after being defeated by the Charlotte 49ers, 66-53, this past Thursday. UTEP trailed by a 32-29 margin at halftime and could not fight back after the 49ers took a 53-40 lead with 9:38 left in regulation. UTEP shot 34.5% from the field & 28.6% from beyond the arc while allowing Charlotte to shoot 40.0% from the field & 25.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Miners was Jamal Bieniemy who had 21 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, & 4 steals.

On the season, UTEP is averaging 68.4 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field. The Miners are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 34.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UTEP has been led by Souley Boum (18.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.4 spg), Jamal Bieniemy (14.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 3.4 apg, 2.0 spg), Keonte Kennedy (13.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.2 apg, 2.1 spg), & Jorell Saterfield (7.9 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 1.1 spg).

Defensively, UTEP is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Miners have a rebound margin of -2.2 and a turnover margin of 3.6.

The Old Dominion Monarchs won their 2nd straight game and improved to 7-8 on the season after defeating the UTSA Roadrunners, 83-51, this past Thursday. Old Dominion dominated UTSA on both ends of the court and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 59-31 lead with 11:53 left in regulation. Old Dominion shot 61.8% from the field & 43.8% from beyond the arc while holding UTSA to just 38.8% shooting from the field & 7.7% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Monarchs was Austin Trice who had 19 points, 4 rebounds, & 2 assists.

On the season, Old Dominion is averaging 66.7 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Monarchs are averaging 4.7 three-pointers per game on 31.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Old Dominion has been led by C.J. Keyser (14.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.9 apg), Kalu Ezikpe (11.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.1 spg), Austin Trice (10.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg), & Jaylin Hunter (9.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.9 spg).

Defensively, Old Dominion is holding their opponents to an average of 65.5 ppg on 42.0% shooting from the field. The Monarchs have a rebound margin of 2.1 and a turnover margin of 0.7.

The Miners are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games, however, are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Monarchs are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games.

UTEP has been led by their defense which ranks t-81st in scoring defense & 35th in turnover margin, however, the Miners have struggled putting points up on the board and currently rank just 263rd in scoring offense & 306th in FG%. Old Dominion has also been led by their defense which ranks t-95th in scoring defense & 155th in defensive FG%, however, the Monarchs have been little threat offensively from beyond the arc (342nd in three-pointers made per game) and currently rank just t-290th in scoring offense.

UTEP is a solid team, however, they are just 3-3 on the road and have struggled recently, losing 4 of their last 5 games. Old Dominion has been great ATS as of late and between the fact that the Monarchs have been competitive in games vs. Richmond & VCU and that their defense should give the UTEP offense some trouble, I think the play here is to take Old Dominion to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
