Tennessee State vs Morehead State 1/15/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Morehead State Eagles and the Tennessee State Tigers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Gentry Complex. Morehead State is 11-5 on the season so far. The Eagles beat TN-Martin in their last game. As for Tennessee State, they’re coming off a Thursday game versus Murray State. In that one the Tigers ended up losing big. Morehead State managed to go 6-5 over their first 11 games this year with losses to Auburn, UAB, Mississippi State, East Tennessee State and Xavier. The Eagles have since won their last five versus Alice Lloyd, IUPUI, Eastern Illinois, Austin Peay and TN-Martin. 

Matched up against the Skyhawks on Wednesday, the Eagles posted a 45-34 edge in the second half on the way to a solid 76-62 victory. Johni Broome led the team on a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds in 24 minutes of play. 

Over on the Tennessee State side, they went 4-6 over their first 10 outings with wins over Fisk, IUPUI, Lipscomb and Charleston Southern. The Tigers hit a 2-2 stretch after that with losses to SC State and TN-Martin amid wins over CU Harrodsburg and Southeast Missouri State. 

In Thursday’s game versus Murray State, Tennessee State scored just 16 points in the first half on the way to a 67-44 blowout defeat. Carlos Marshall led the team 12 points with seven rebounds, and Dedric Boyd added 10 points with five steals. 

Tennessee State is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 17-35-1 ATS in their last 53 Saturday games. The over is 4-1 in the Tigers’ last five overall. 

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games. The over is 5-1 in Morehead State’s last six Saturday games. 

PICK: I’m going to try Morehead State here. It’s been a good run for the Eagles over this five-game win streak. They’ve hit 76 or more points in three of those games and also held opponents to a max of 62 points on the other side. There have certainly been some lulls this year, but Morehead State has been a solid offensive squad in comparable games. 

As for Tennessee State, they’re coming off a rough matchup versus Murray State. Though I think the Tigers will play better here, it’s probably still Morehead State’s cover to take.
