The Davidson Wildcats and the VCU Rams meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Siegel Center. Davidson is 14-2 this year so far. The Wildcats took out Richmond in their last game. Davidson lost two of their first three games, but it’s been smooth sailing from there. The Wildcats are riding a 12-game winning streak. They’ve beaten Saint Joseph’s, Rhode Island, UMass and Richmond in their last quartet.
Matched up against Richmond in the Friday game, the Wildcats were up 47-39 at halftime but had to hang on to get the eventual 87-84 win. Tops in scoring was Michael Jones on 29 points and four boards. Luka Brajkovic doubled up on 13 points and 11 rebounds as well.
Over on the VCU side, they started the year at 3-4 before hitting a win streak over Campbell, Jacksonville State, Old Dominion, FAU, Dayton, La Salle and George Washington. The Rams’ streak stopped with a loss to St. Bonaventure on Friday.
In the St. Bonaventure game, the Rams couldn’t find much offense. VCU scored just 28 points in the first half and 25 more from there in a 73-53 blowout loss. The Rams’ top scorer was Marcus Tsohonis with 14 points and two rebounds.
VCU is 4-1 ATS in their last five at home and 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall. The Rams are 8-1 ATS in their last nine after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 7-0 ATS in their last seven road games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win. Davidson is 37-18-1 ATS in the last 56 Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m going to with Davidson. The Wildcats’ recent winning streak has certainly been impressive. Davidson has hit 70 or more points in each of the 12 games, and though there have been a few close calls here and there the Wildcats have taken care of business. VCU is going to want to regain some momentum here after a tough loss. With the way Davidson has been playing lately however, I don’t think the Rams will be able to get into a cover.
