Monmouth vs Iona 1/18/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Iona Gaels and the Monmouth Hawks meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the OceanFirst Bank Center on Tuesday night.

The Iona Gaels will look to build on their three-game win streak and wins in 8 of 9 games after a 78-55 win over Niagara last time out. Tyson Jolly leads the Gaels in scoring with 14.9 PPG along with 4.9 RPG while Nelly Junior Joseph has 13.6 PPG with a team-high 8.8 RPG to lead the Gaels on the glass and Elijah Joiner has 10.1 PPG with 4.5 RPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Iona this season. Dylan van Eyck has 9.4 PPG with a team-high 3.3 APG as well as 5.1 RPG and Quinn Slazinski has 9.6 PPG and 3.6 RPG this season as well. As a team, Iona is averaging 76.8 PPG on 44.1% shooting from the field, 32.3% from three and 69% from the foul line while allowing 69.4 PPG on 41.6% shooting from the field and 28.9% from three this season.

The Monmouth Hawks will try to snap a three-game losing streak after an 84-48 loss to Marist last time out. George Papas leads the Hawks in scoring and assists with 15.5 PPG and 2.9 APG while Shavar Reynolds has 15.1 PPG with 3.2 RPG. Walker Miller’s got 13.9 PPG and 6.1 RPG while Marcus McClary has 10.1 PPG with 4.9 RPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Monmouth so far this season. Nikkei Rutty also has a team-high 6.8 RPG of his own to lead the Hawks in rebounding so far this season. As a team, Monmouth is averaging 70.4 PPG on 43.2% shooting from the field, 33.3% from three and 79.1% from the foul line while allowing 68 PPG on 39.1% shooting from the field and 31.1% from three this season.

Iona is 14-5-1 ATS in their last 20 games against a team with a winning record and 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following an ATS win. Monmouth is 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 and 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS loss while the under is 10-1 in their last 11 games overall.

I get the case to be made either way here, but I think the stronger play for me in this game is to side with Iona. I’ve still got a bit of an issue with Monmouth here after not showing up Marist and the Hawks are also falling off after their strong ATS start to the year. Iona has red hot as of late and while the Gaels have had issues ATS as of late, those issues came when giving up a lot more than what they’re giving up here. I’ll side with Iona on the road here.
