The Vermont Catamounts and the NJIT Highlanders meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Wellness and Events Center. Vermont enters this one at 11-4 so far. The Catamounts beat UMBC in their last appearance. As for NJIT, they’re 8-7 on the season and coming off a loss to Albany. Vermont started the year off at a spotty 6-4 with losses to Maryland, Oakland, UNC Greensboro and Providence. The Catamounts have since won five straight over Brown, Colgate, New Hampshire, Stony Brook and UMBC.

In the UMBC game Saturday, the Catamounts posted a 50-33 edge in the first half and cruised to the eventual 86-69 win. Tops in scoring was Ryan Davis with 21 points and nine boards. Finn Sullivan added 20 points with three rebounds as well.

Over on the NJIT side, they went 5-5 over their first 10 games. The Highlanders then hit a win streak over Maine, UMass Lowell and Binghamton. In the last pair however, NJIT has lost to UMBC and Albany.

In the Albany game, the Highlanders scored just 18 points in the first half. NJIT trailed in a 40-38 run from there on the way to a 71-56 loss. Leading the scoring was Miles Coleman on 20 points, seven rebounds and a steal.

The under is 5-2 in the Highlanders’ last seven at home and they’re 2-5 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. NJIT is 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine at home.

Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 5-0 ATS in the last five overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four after a straight-up win. The over is 5-0 in Vermont’s last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Vermont. The Catamounts are looking good over this five-game win streak. They’ve hit 70 or more points in all five games, and 82 or more in each of their last three. Vermont is also working well defensively, giving up 69 or fewer points in each of the quintet. NJIT may be able to hang around for a while here, but I don’t think they’ve got the offensive legs to keep up.
