Eastern Illinois vs Southeast Missouri State 1/22/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks and the Eastern Illinois Panthers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Lantz Arena. Southeast Missouri State is coming off a Thursday matchup versus Tennessee State. In that one the Redhawks managed a blowout win. As for Eastern Illinois, they played Murray State on Thursday. Southeast Missouri State went 5-4 over their first nine games, then hit a losing streak versus Fort Wayne, Southern Illinois, Pepperdine, Cal Baptist and Murray State. After a win over Austin Peay, the Redhawks lost to Belmont and Tennessee State in the next pair. 

On Thursday in the rematch versus Tennessee State, Southeast Missouri State scored 41 points in the first half and 44 more in the second in an 85-63 win. Nana Akenten put up 17 points, and Phillip Russell added 15 points and seven assists. 

Over on the Eastern Illinois side, they won just two of their first nine games. The Panthers hit the skids on a losing streak from there, losing to Missouri, Butler, Western Illinois, Ball State, Morehead State, SIU Edwardsville and Murray State in their next seven. 

Matched up against Murray State for the Thursday rematch, Eastern Illinois was blown out 48-22 in the first half and 43-29 in the second for a 91-51 defeat. Paul Bizimana led the team on his 22 points, four rebounds and one assist. 

The Panthers are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 at home and 16-36 ATS in their last 52 overall. Eastern Illinois is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 on Saturday. 

Meanwhile, the Redhawks are 0-4 ATS in the last four road games and 9-24-1 ATS in their last 34 after an ATS win. SEMO is 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with SEMO here. The Redhawks have certainly had their difficulties over this ugly 2-7 run, but there are some positives to draw from. Southeast Missouri State has scored 81 or more points in four of their last five, and they’ve got a couple of nice wins over their last four outings. As for Eastern Illinois, they’ve had some tough matchups lately and haven’t scored more than 55 points in any of their last eight games. The cover should be there for SEMO if they can keep the offense going.
