The Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions and the Grambling State Tigers meet Monday in college basketball action from Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. AR-Pine Bluff is 4-16 on the year so far and coming off a loss to Southern U. As for Grambling State, they’re 6-12 this season. The Tigers beat MS Valley State in their last outing. AR-Pine Bluff hasn’t been able to string together consecutive wins yet this year. The Lions hit a 3-12 run out of the gate and have gone 1-4 since then. The losses in that stretch were to Texas Southern, Prairie New A&M, Florida A&M and Southern U.
In the Southern matchup back on Saturday, the Lions coughed up a 60-21 deficit in the first half. AR-Pine Bluff didn’t get any closer in an eventual 99-51 blowout loss. Tops in scoring was Dequan Morris with 21 points and three rebounds.
Over on the Grambling State side, they’ve had a choppy season as well. The Tigers won just three of their first 14 games, but they’ve been on a 3-1 run since. The wins have come versus Bethune-Cookman, Southern U and MS Valley State.
In the Delta Devils matchup this past weekend, the Tigers posted a 33-32 edge in the first half and a 35-32 run from there for a 68-64 win. Top scorer Eric Parrish put up 17 points with 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the winning effort.
Grambling is 5-12 ATS in the last 17 overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four Monday games. The Tigers are 4-0 ATS in the last four after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 19-7 in ARPB’s last 26 Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Grambling State here. The Tigers have certainly had their hits and misses this season so far, but things have been better over the last four outings. Grambling State has hit 68 or more points in each of the wins during that 3-1 stretch and should be able to score well in this matchup also. AR-Pine Bluff has given up 71 or more points in four of their last five, so Grambling State will have some solid offensive opportunities in this one.
