The Presbyterian Blue Hose and the Charleston Southern Buccaneers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from CSU Field House. Presbyterian is 8-12 this season and coming off a loss to Longwood over the weekend. As for Charleston Southern, they’re sitting at 4-14 so far. The Buccaneers fell to USC Upstate in their last game. Presbyterian posted a 5-2 record over their first seven games but they haven’t been able to win consecutive outings since. The Hose are 0-5 in their last quintet, falling to North Carolina A&T, USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, Winthrop and Longwood in that time.
Presbyterian fell behind Longwood 35-26 after the first half in their last game. The Hose made a 44-36 run in the second, but it wasn’t enough in a 71-70 defeat. Rayshon Harrison was the team’s top scorer on 29 points, and Trevon Reddish-Rhone added 12 points as well.
Over on the Charleston Southern side, they haven’t been able to win consecutive games all year so far. The Buccaneers’ wins have come over Johnson & Wales (NC), Bob Jones, Tarleton and Winthrop. In their last outing Charleston Southern fell again to USC Upstate.
In the USC Update matchup on Saturday, the Buccaneers scored just 21 points in the first half. Charleston Southern got better from there but couldn’t catch up in a 70-57 loss. Leading scorer Tahlik Chavez put up 18 points with six rebounds.
The Bucs are 5-15 ATS in their last 20 at home and 6-18 ATS in the last 24 after an ATS loss. The under is 6-1 in Charleston Southern’s last seven after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Hose are 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine after a straight-up loss and 5-1 ATS in the last six after an ATS win. The under is 4-0 in Presbyterian’s last four Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Presbyterian here. There’s not much to get excited about in this game, but it should be a fairly evenly-matched affair. In any case, the Hose have posted a few solid offensive outings lately; they’ve hit 70 or more points in three of the last six games. As for Charleston Southern, they’ve been at 65 points or below in six of their last seven. I like this one to be competitive with Presbyterian eking out an eventual cover.
