The Kansas City Roos and the Denver Pioneers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hamilton Gymnasium. UMKC is 11-8 on the year so far. The Roos beat Spurgeon College in their last game. As for Denver, they’re 8-14 and coming off a win over Omaha this past weekend. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Kansas City got off to a 6-6 start this year, beating Missouri, Kansas Christian, Idaho State, Calvary, Green Bay and South Dakota. It’s been a 5-2 stretch since then with wins over Omaha, Baptist Bible MO, North Dakota State, North Dakota and Spurgeon College.

In the matchup versos Suprgeon on Monday, the Roos didn’t have much trouble. UMKC scored 60 points in the first half and 51 more from there in a 111-44 blowout win. Jack Chapman scored 27 points with 14 rebounds to lead the team in both categories.

Over on the Denver side, they won just three of their first 12 games this year over Regis, IUPUI and Houston Baptist. It’s been a 5-5 stretch since with victories versus UC San Diego, St. Thomas MN, North Dakota, Kansas City and Omaha.

Matched up against Omaha on Saturday, the Pioneers outpaced the Mavericks 50-24 in the first half and 44-39 from there in a nice 94-63 victory. Tevin Smith was the leading scorer on the team with 18 points, and Michael Henn doubled with 13 points and 12 boards.

The Pioneers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine at home and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS win. The over is 23-8 in Denver’s last 31 at home.

Meanwhile, the Roos are 1-4 ATS in the last five overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. The over is 6-2 in UMKC’s last eight Thursday games.

PICK: I’m probably going to stick with Kansas City here. The Roos had a rough game the last time these teams met up back on January 17. UMKC lost that one 63-55, shooting a chilly 35.8 percent from the field and getting out-rebounded 35-18. Denver had a whopping 26 turnovers in that one but it hardly mattered.

UMKC has looked much better since then with 79 or more points in three straight. I like the Roos to get it together in this rematch and power out a road cover/win.
