The Loyola Marymount Lions will travel to the McCarthey Athletic Center to take on the 2nd ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The Loyola Marymount Lions had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-8 on the season after being defeated by the St. Mary’s Gaels, 83-51, this past Saturday. Loyola Marymount had no answers for St. Mary’s on either end of the court and could not fight back after the Gaels took a 56-29 lead with 13:09 left in regulation. Loyola Marymount shot 35.4% from the field & 21.1% from beyond the arc while allowing St. Mary’s to shoot 54.2% from the field & 34.6% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Lions was Cam Shelton who had 12 points & 4 rebounds.

On the season, Loyola Marymount is averaging 68.8 ppg on 45.4% shooting from the field. The Lions are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 32.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Loyola Marymount has been led by Eli Scott (16.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.0 spg), Joe Quintana (13.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.2 spg), Cam Shelton (8.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.2 spg), & Keli Leaupepe (8.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg).

Defensively, Loyola Marymount is allowing their opponents to average 71.2 ppg on 44.6% shooting from the field. The Loins have a rebound margin of -0.6 and a turnover margin of -1.8.

The 2nd ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs won their 8th straight game and improved to 15-2 on the season after defeating the San Francisco Dons, 78-62, this past Thursday. Gonzaga led by just a 36-33 margin at halftime, however, the Bulldogs dominated San Francisco on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and easily pulled away after taking a 56-40 lead with 10:40 left in regulation. Gonzaga shot 46.7% from the field & 27.8% from beyond the arc while holding San Francisco to just 36.1% shooting from the field & 28.6% from beyond the arc. Offensively, Gonzaga has been led by Drew Timme (18.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.4 apg), Chet Holmgren (13.6 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.1 apg, 3.4 bpg), Julian Strawther (12.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.1 apg), & Andrew Nembhard (9.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.8 spg).

Defensively, Gonzaga is allowing their opponents to average 90.2 ppg on 53.5% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 9.8 and a turnover margin of 1.3.

The Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games & 3-3 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Bulldogs are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games & 4-1 ATS in their last 5 January games.

Loyola Marymount has struggled on both ends of the court this season as the Lions come into this game ranked just 244th in scoring offense, 244th in scoring defense, & 271st in defensive FG%. Gonzaga has been outstanding on both ends of the court as the Bulldogs rank 1st in scoring offense, 1st in FG%, & 13th in defensive FG%.

Gonzaga has one of the best offenses in the country and it’s hard to imagine they are going to struggle against al Loyola Marymount team that just allowed St. Mary’s to put up 83 points against them. Loyola Marymount might have a winning record, however, this is not a great team, and as I think the Bulldogs dominate on both ends of the court in this one, I’m taking Gonzaga to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
