The BYU Cougars and the Santa Clara Broncos meet Thursday in college basketball action from Leavey Center. BYU is rolling along at 17-4 this year. The Cougars beat Portland in their last game over the weekend. As for Santa Clara, they’re currently 12-7 and coming off an OT win versus San Diego. BYU has been a very consistent team this year. The Cougars are yet to lose consecutive games. Since the calendar year began BYU is 5-1, taking victories over Pacific, Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, San Diego and Portland in that stretch.

Matched up against Portland on Saturday, BYU scored 39 points in the first half and another 39 in the second on the way to a 78-65 win. The Coguars’ top score was Te’Jon Lucas with 16 points and seven assists. Fousseyni Traore doubled on 13 points and 10 boards as well.

Over on the Santa Clara side, they hit a 10-5 run to start the season, losing to Fresno State, UC Irvine, LA Tech, Cal and Boise State. After a handful of postponements, the Broncos are 2-2 in their last four with wins over Pacific and San Diego.

In the San Diego game on Monday, Santa Clara overcame a halftime deficit to force overtime. The Broncos scored eight points in the extra period for a 78-74 win. Josip Vrankic led the way on 22 points and Keshawn Justice added 18 points and eight boards.

The Broncos are 1-5 ATS in their last six at home and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Thursday games. Santa Clara is 1-6 ATS in their last seven Thursday games.

Meanwhile, the Cougars are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five Thursday games. The over is 5-2 in BYU’s last seven road games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with BYU here. The Cougars are on a great 7-1 run right now—the only blemish being a 110-84 loss to a stellar Gonzaga team. BYU has been putting up the points well regardless, though; they’ve hit 71 or more in six of their last eight outings.

As for Santa Clara, they’ve scored 78 or more points in three of their last four so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them keep up for most of the game. Ultimately I think BYU will flex their muscles in the second half and pull away for a cover, though.
