The San Jose State Spartans and the Boise State Broncos meet Saturday in college basketball action from ExtraMile Arena. San Jose State is coming off a Thursday game versus Utah State. The Spartans ended up falling by double-digits in that game. As for Boise State, they played Wyoming in their Thursday matchup. In that one, the Broncos lost by seven points. San Jose State managed to go 7-5 through their first 12 games. The Spartans then hit a losing streak versus Fresno State, Colorado State, UNLV, Wyoming, UNLV again, AirForce, New Mexico and Fresno State again.
In Thursday’s matchup versus Utah State, the Spartans were down by just one point at halftime. San Jose State was drilled 29-44 from there in a 78-62 loss. Tops in scoring was Trey Smith with 14 points, and MJ Amey added 11 points.
Over on the Boise State side, they lost four of their first seven games. The Broncos then took out CSUN, Prairie View, Santa Clara, Montana Tech, Washington State, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, Air Force, Utah State, San Diego State, Wyoming and Fresno State in succession.
On Thursday against Wyoming, the Broncos posted a 28-28 tie by the break but were outscored 44-37 from there in a 72-65 defeat. Abu Kigab led the team on 26 points and five boards, while Tyson Degenhart added 13 points with five rebounds.
The Broncos are 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss and 9-4 ATS in the last 13 overall. The under is 7-3 in Boise’s last 10 at home.
Meanwhile, the Spartans are 14-30-2 ATS in their last 46 road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 overall. San Jose State is 11-23 ATS in their last 34 after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Boise State here, but the line is probably too thick to mess with. The Broncos had a tough time on the road against a tricky Wyoming team in their last outing, but they had been doing very well defensively over their previous six games.
As for San Jose State, they’ve had some issues scoring lately in these difficult games. The Spartans have been below 70 points in eight of nine games in this losing streak. I don’t think they’ll have the gas to keep up here; I like Boise State to get back to business.
