The Marist Red Foxes and the Monmouth Hawks meet in college basketball action from OceanFirst Bank Center on Tuesday night.
The Marist Red Foxes will look to snap a five-game losing streak after a 66-50 loss to Saint Peter’s last time out. Jao Ituka leads the Red Foxes in scoring with 14.3 PPG while Ricardo Wright is right behind with 14 PPG and 4.1 RPG and Samkelo Cele has 10.2 PPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Marist so far this season. Raheim Sullivan also has 9.1 PPG for Marist on the year. Matt Herasme also has a team-high 5 RPG for the Red Foxes as well this season. As a team, Marist is averaging 69.4 PPG on 44.3% shooting from the field, 33.7% from three and 70.2% from the foul line while allowing 68.3 PPG on 42.1% shooting from the field and 33.5% from three this season.
The Monmouth Hawks will try to add to their 76-63 win over Quinnipiac last time out. George Papas leads the Hawks in scoring and assists with 16.1 PPG and 3 APG while Shavar Reynolds has 14.4 PPG with 3 RPG. Walker Miller’s got 15.1 PPG and 6.4 RPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Monmouth so far this season. Nikkei Rutty also has a team-high 7 RPG of his own to lead the Hawks in rebounding so far this season. As a team, Monmouth is averaging 70.7 PPG on 42.7% shooting from the field, 33.2% from three and 75.7% from the foul line while allowing 67.4 PPG on 39.7% shooting from the field and 31.9% from three this season.
Marist is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a loss and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Monmouth is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Tuesday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400.
I get the case to be made for Marist here with the points, but the problem is that Monmouth is the better team and while Marist has played in a ton of close games as of late, the Hawks have won games convincingly and will be out for blood after being humiliated by Marist by 36 points earlier this season. I’ll lay the points with Monmouth in this one.
