The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights meet Wednesday in college basketball action from the RAC. Ohio State is sitting at 14-5 overall this year. The Buckeyes beat Maryland in their last game. As for Rutgers, they’re 13-9 so far and coming off a win over Michigan State. Ohio State posted a solid 10-4 run through their first 14 games this year, losing to Xavier, Florida, Indiana and Wisconsin. It’s been a 4-1 run for the Buckeyes since then with victories over Penn State, IUPUI, Minnesota and Maryland.

Matched up against the Terrapins on Sunday, Ohio State scored 42 points in the first half and 40 more after the break on the way to an 82-67 victory. EJ Liddell put up 24 points with 11 rebounds, and Zed Key added 14 points.

Over on the Rutgers side, their year began on an 11-6 run with losses to DePaul, Lafayette, UMass, Illinois, Seton Hall and Penn State. Rutgers is 2-3 in their last five with losses to Minnesota, Maryland and Northwestern among wins versus Nebraska and Michigan State.

In the Michigan State game, the Knights outscored the Spartans 40-38 in the first half and 44-25 from there in an impressive 84-63 blowout upset. Ron Harper and Clifford Omoruyi each notched 17 points and four rebounds to lead the team.

The Knights are 5-1 ATS in their last six at home and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win. The under is 16-7 in Rutgers’ last 23 Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last four overall. Ohio State is 34-16-2 ATS in the last 52 Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to try Ohio State in this one, but staying away. I’m tempted to take Rutgers after the big upset win over Michigan State, but the Knights are likely more apt to return to the mean than they are to keep it going with another improbable performance. Rutgers has scored 65 points or fewer in four of their last six games and I expect them to finish somewhere in that neighborhood here. Ohio State has been at 75 or more in each of the last four and usually doesn’t have much trouble scoring this year. The Buckeyes should be in control if they play to their capabilities.
