The Pittsburgh Panthers and the North Carolina Tar Heels meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Dean Smith Center. Pittsburgh is 10-16 thus far and coming off a win over NC State. As for North Carolina, they’re 18-7 on the season. The Tar Heels beat Florida State in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Pittsburgh went 8-12 in their first 20 games this year. The Panthers would then hit a four-game losing streak to Boston College, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech (twice). The last pair of games have both been wins over Florida State and NC State.

Matched up against NC State on Saturday, Pittsburgh was down 26-31 heading into the second half. The Panthers fought back on a 45-38 run to pull off a 71-69 win. John Hugley was tops on 21 points with 10 rebounds and six assists.

Over on the North Carolina side, they’ve been highly consistent so far this year and only lost consecutive games twice. The Tar Heels are 6-1 in their last seven with wins over Virginia Tech, Boston College, NC State, Louisville, Clemson and Florida State.

In the Florida State game Saturday, the Tar Heels didn’t have much trouble. UNC scored a whopping 62 points in the first half and cruised to the 94-74 win. Caleb Love led the team with his 18 points, and Armando Bacot doubled on 17 points and 14 boards.

The Tar Heels are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall and 7-2 ATS in their last nine at home. The over is 5-0 in UNC’s last five overall.

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up win. The under is 5-1 in Pitt’s last six road games.

PICK: I’m staying with North Carolina. The Tar Heels are on a nice run over this 6-1 stretch, with the only blemish being a February 5 loss to Duke. UNC is scoring well lately with 78 or more points in five of their last seven outings.

As for Pittsburgh, they get credit for powering out a couple of close wins in their last two games. The Panthers have been a mixed bag when it comes to putting up points, however. Pittsburgh is going to have to hit the offense hard in this one, and I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up.
