The Baylor Bears and the Texas Tech Red Raiders meet Wednesday in college basketball action from United Supermarkets Arena. Baylor is 21-4 on the year so far. Baylor posted a nice 15-0 run to start the year, then took losses to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State in January. The Bears are on a 6-2 clip since then. They’ve lost to Kansas and beaten Kansas State and Texas over their last trio of outings.
In the Texas matchup back on Saturday, Baylor scored 44 points in the first half and 36 more in the second during a solid 80-63 victory. Tops in scoring was Adam Flagler with 20 points, and James Akinjo added 15 points of his own.
Over on the Texas Tech side, they’ve stayed consistent this season and have avoided consecutive losses so far. The Raiders are 4-1 in their last five games. The wins were over Mississippi State, Texas, West Virginia and TCU in that time.
On Saturday versus TCU, the Raiders were down 37-40 at the break. Texas Tech stormed back on a 45-29 second-half run for the 82-69 victory. Terrence Shannon led the team on 20 bench points, and Bryson Williams added 16 points as well.
The Raiders are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 at home and 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall. The over is 6-1 in Texas Tech’s last seven home games.
Meanwhile, the Bears are 52-25-2 ATS in their last 79 road games and 18-7-2 ATS in their last 27 Wednesday games. The under is 4-1 in Baylor’s last five Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Texas Tech. I could probably go either way here, though; we should have a great matchup on our hands. In any case, the Raiders have been scoring well lately with 72 or more points in six of their last eight games. Texas Tech won in a road matchup the last time these teams played, 65-62 back on January 11.
Baylor has looked good over their last two games, so they’re not going to go away quietly. Still, I like Texas Tech to eke out a cover here in a high-scoring, competitive game. Should be a great one to watch.
