The Cornell Big Red and the Harvard Crimson meet Saturday in college basketball action from Lavietes Pavilion. Cornell is coming off a Friday matchup versus Dartmouth. In that one the Big Red lost by 12 points. As for Harvard, they played Columbia in their Friday outing. The Crimson ended up winning by six. Cornell went a nice 8-1 to start the year, but quickly hit a 1-5 run after that. The Big Red were able to win four of the next five games over Harvard, Brown, Princeton and Columbia (losing to Penn along the way) before a February 12 loss to Brown.

On Friday versus Dartmouth, Cornell held a 24-22 lead by halftime. The Big Red were outscored 35-49 from there in a rough 71-59 loss. Tops in scoring was Nazir Williams with 14 points and four rebounds. Dean Noll added 11 points as well.

Over on the Harvard side, they posted a pretty solid 10-5 run over their first 15 games this year. The Crimson have struggled in conference play recently however. they hit a 1-5 run with losses to Cornell, Penn, Yale (twice) and Penn again as the schedule moved into February.

In the Friday matchup versus Columbia, Harvard went into the break with a 35-26 lead. The Crimson were able to hang on from there in a 62-54 victory. Noah Kirkwood led the team with 22 points and three rebounds.

Harvard is 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall. The over is 6-2 in the Crimson’s last eight Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Red are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 overall. The under is 19-7 in Cornell’s last 26 Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Cornell in this one. It’s been a shaky run for the Big Red lately, but they’re starting to get the hang of things in these conference games and generally scoring well. (Friday was a noteworthy exception, however.) The last time these teams met up back on January 22, Cornell secured a 76-61 victory at home. I like Harvard to score a little better this time in the familiar atmosphere, but I don’t think the Crimson can keep the pace on Cornell if the Big Red get going.
