Prairie View lost each of their first 11 games, but things have been better since then. The Panthers are currently on a 7-4 run. They’ve beaten Southern, Grambling and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their last trio of outings.
In the AR-Pine Bluff game on Saturday, the Panthers posted a 46-33 run in the first half. Prairie View had to hang on in the second but eventually emerged with a 92-84 win. Jeremiah Gambrell led the team on 31 points with four assists.
Over on the MS Valley State side, it’s been a rough year to say the least. The two wins came January 8 over Prairie View and February 14 versus Alabama State. The Delta Devils couldn’t string together consecutive victories, losing to Texas Southern in their last game.
On Saturday versus Texas Southern, the Devils had a 34-30 lead at the break. MS Valley State was outscored 25-49 from there in a 79-59 loss. Both Caleb Hunter and Terry Collins posted a team-high 14 points with a combined six boards.
The Devils are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall land 2-5 ATS in their last seven Monday games. The over is 13-5-1 in MS Valley State’s last 19 overall.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall. Prairie View is 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Prairie View here. Granted, there’s not much to get excited about in this matchup due to each team’s record, but it should be a competitive matchup if nothing else. The last time these teams met up, we had a wild overtime battle that resulted in one of MS Valley State’s only two wins this year 84-82. With the Delta Devils being a home, we’re sure to have a competitive game in this rematch as well. Prairie View has been playing much better over the last three, and I think they can power out the cover.
