The Villanova Wildcats and the UConn Huskies meet Tuesday in college basketball action from XL Center. Villanova’s record is 21-6 so far this year. The Wildcats beat Georgetown in their last matchup. Villanova has maintained form quite well this year and only lost consecutive games once. Since their last defeat courtesy of Marquette, the Wildcats have beaten UConn, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Providence and Georgetown in succession.
Matched up against Georgetown on Saturday, the Wildcats managed a 32-22 lead by halftime. Villanova was outscored 42-44 from there but still hung on for the 74-66 win. Justin Moore was the top team scorer with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Over on the UConn side, they had a rough 1-3 run back in early February but other than that the team has stayed pretty consistent all season. The Huskies are riding a three-game win streak over St. John’s, Seton Hall and Xavier right now.
On Saturday in the Xavier matchup, the Huskies jumped out to a nice 44-27 lead by the break. UConn scored 28 more points in the second half during a 72-61 win. Leading the team was RJ Cole on 16 points, three boards and three assists.
The Huskies are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 after an ATS win and 2-6 ATS in the last eight overall. UConn is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games. Villanova is 44-21-2 ATS in their last 67 after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on UConn. The Huskies have done a pretty good job of scoring lately; they’ve hit 68 or more points in five of their last six outings. One of those was an 85-74 road loss to Villanova the last time these teams met up back on February 5. Both teams shot 50 percent or above in that one, but the Huskies were out-rebounded 20-28. I like this one to be another fun and high-scoring game, with UConn getting in there for a cover/win. Should be a good matchup.
