The Elon Phoenix and the Hofstra Pride meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hofstra Arena. Elon is currently 8-21 on the year. The Phoenix lost to Drexel in their last game. Elon has had trouble stringing together consecutive wins all season long; they’ve only done it once, early in the year. The Phoenix are currently on a four-game losing streak, falling to Towson, Hofstra, Delaware and Drexel in succession.
Matched up against Drexel on Saturday, the Phoenix were outscored 21-32 in the first half. Elon kept the pace from there but ended up with a 71-60 loss. Tops in scoring was Darius Buford with 31 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Over on the Hofstra side, they got off to a slow 1-4 start but have only lost consecutive games once since then. The Pride have won their last six over James Madison, UNCW, Drexel, Delaware, Elon and Northeastern.
On Saturday in the Northeastern game, the Pride took a 29-32 deficit into the break. Hofstra hit a 47-41 run from there and took the 76-73 comeback win. Aaron Estrada led the team with his 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Pride are 0-5 ATS in their last five at home and 21-9 ATS in their last 30 Thursday games. Hofstra is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and 9-27-1 ATS in their last 37 Thursday games. The under is 14-6 in Elon’s last 20 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Hofstra. The Pride are rolling right along on offense these days; they’ve hit 68 or more points in each of their last 12 games, going 10-2 in that stretch. These teams just met up recently: February 15 in a 97-64 road win for Hofstra. Elon has been mildly better at home lately but they’re still taking a ton of losses. I don’t think this rematch will be that much different if Hofstra can stay hot.
