The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Maryland Terrapins meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Xfinity Center College Park. Minnesota is currently 13-14 this year. The Gophers lost to Indiana in their last appearance. As for Maryland, they’re sitting at 14-15 and coming off a win over Ohio State. Minnesota got off to a great 10-1 start but they’ve struggled mightily in the Big Ten matchups. The Gophers have won just three games since December 22. They’ve fallen to Wisconsin and Indiana in their last pair of outings.
On Sunday in the Indiana matchup, the Gophers were outscored 33-40 in the first half. Minnesota hit 46 points from there but still lost 84-79. Leading the scoring for the Gophers was Payton Willis on 28 points and seven assists.
Over on the Maryland side, they were above .500 at 11-9 back on January 25. The Terrapins would then hit a five-game losing streak before wins over Nebraska and Penn State. Since then Maryland has lost to Indiana and beaten Ohio State.
Matched up against Ohio State on Sunday, the Terrapins scored 32 points in the first half and 43 more after the break on the way to a 75-60 upset victory. Fatts Russell was the top team scorer with his 27 points, three assists and two steals.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Maryland. I could probably go either way in this one, though; it should be a great matchup. In any case, The Terrapins have found some mojo during this 3-1 run, taking out Nebraska, Penn State and Ohio State along the way. The scoring has still been sporadic, though; Maryland has 67 points or fear in three of the last five outings. As for Minnesota, they’ve been highly competitive over the last three games and won’t go quietly in this one, either. I still like Maryland on the cover, but it’s very close.
