UNC Wilmington vs Elon 3/6/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Elon Phoenix and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks meet Sunday in CAA Tournament college basketball action from Entertainment and Sports Arena. Elon is 10-21 this season and coming off a win over Northeastern. As for UNC Wilmington, they’re sitting at 21-8 and beat Delaware in their last outing. Elon has only been able to win consecutive games a couple of times this year; it’s been tough for the team to find extended success. The good news is that right now the Phoenix are sitting on consecutive wins versus Hofstra and Northeastern. 

In last weekend’s matchup versus Northeastern, the Phoenix hit a 30-20 run in the first half. Elon outscored the opposition 37-34 the rest of the way to secure a 67-54 win. Hunter McIntosh was the top scorer with 21 points and one rebound. 

Over on the UNC Wilmington side, they started the year out at just 3-5 but recovered quickly. The Seahawks have been great since then outside of a 3-3 run in February. UNC Wilmington has won their last three versus James Madison, Drexel and Delaware. 

Back last weekend versus Delaware, the Seahawks had a slim three-point lead by halftime. UNC Wilmington scored 43 points in the second on the way to a 69-62 win. Shykeim Phillips put up 16 points with six rebounds and four steals. 

The Seahawks are 1-4 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS win. The over is 11-4 in UNCW’s last 15 Sunday games. 

Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 0-4 ATS in their last four neutral-site games and 4-1 ATS in their last five Sunday games. The under is 35-16 in Elon’s last 51 overall.

PICK: I’m going to try UNCW here. You could make a good case either way here, though. These teams split the regular-season matchups; Elon got a road win 73-66 on January 12 and UNCW returned the favor 78-65 on February 3. It’s anyone’s guess how this one will go. 

That said, UNC Wilmington has been scoring great lately with 69 or more points in six of their last seven games. If the Seahawks can keep up that kind of scoring onslaught they should be in line for the cover here. It’ll be a good game to watch regardless.
