The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet in college basketball action from the Ford Center at the Star on Wednesday night.

The Marshall Thundering Herd pulled out a 74-62 win over FIU last time out. Taevion Kinsey leads the Herd in scoring with 18.8 PPG along with 5.2 RPG and 4.4 APG while Obinna Anochili-Killen has 11.8 PPG and a team-high 6.4 RPG to lead Marshall on the glass. Andrew Taylor has 14.5 PPG with 5.2 RPG and a team-high 4.4 APG to lead the Herd in assists and round out the group of double-digit scorers for Marshall so far this season. As a team, Marshall is averaging 74.2 PPG on 43,9% shooting from the field, 30.1% from three and 70.5% from the foul line while allowing 76.9 PPG on 45.1% shooting from the field and 34.1% from three this season.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will come into the conference tournament as the #3 seed in the West division after finishing at 21-9 overall including a 12-6 mark in conference play this season. Kenneth Lofton Jr. leads the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding with 16.4 PPG and 10.5 RPG, averaging a double-double per game while Amorie Archibald has 13.2 PPG and 3.7 RPG this season. Keaston Willis has 12 PPG with 3.2 RPG and Cobe Williams has 11.4 PPG and a team-high 3.2 APG as well on the year for the Bulldogs, leading the team in assists and also capping off the group of double-digit scorers for LA Tech so far this season. As a team, LA Tech is averaging 76.9 PPG on 46% shooting from the field, 34.7% from three and 72.4% from the foul line while allowing 69 PPG on 41.9% shooting from the field and 33.9% from three this season.

I get the case to be made for Marshall in this spot as they had a game to shake off the rust and looked pretty good in doing it. However, one win isn’t going to sway my judgment on Marshall, and that’s the fact that this Marshall team isn’t anything special and hasn’t been very good for much of the season. Louisiana Tech’s far from a world-beater, but they’re the better team in this one and I think the Bulldogs beat up on the Herd and get the win here.
