The St. John’s Red Storm and the Villanova Wildcats meet in college basketball action from Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.

The St. John’s Red Storm will look to build on their 92-73 win over DePaul in the last round. Julian Champagnie leads the Red Storm in scoring and rebounding with 18.9 PPG and 6.6 RPG while Posh Alexander has 14.1 PPG with 4.6 RPG and a team-high 5.4 APG. Aaron Wheeler has 10.2 PPG with 4.7 RPG, representing the trio of St. John’s players scoring in double figures so far this season. Dylan Addae-Wusu has 8.7 PPG with 4 RPG and 4 APG while Montez Mathis has 8.4 PPG with 3.6 RPG this year. As a team, St. John’s is averaging 79.7 PPG on 45.2% shooting from the field, 33.9% from three and 67.5% from the foul line while allowing 74.5 PPG on 42.4% shooting from the field and 34.7% from three this season.

The Villanova Wildcats come into the conference tournament as the #2 seed after going 23-7 overall including a 16-4 mark in conference play. Collin Gillespie leads the Wildcats in scoring with 16.3 PPG as well as in assists with 3.1 APG while Justin Moore has 15.3 PPG with 5.2 RPG and Jermaine Samuels has 10.3 PPG with 5.9 RPG this season. Caleb Daniels has 10.1 PPG with 3.3 RPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Villanova so far this season. Brandon Slater also has 9.1 PPG with 3.6 RPG while  Eric Dixon also has 9.6 PPG and a team-high 6.5 RPG as well on the year. As a team, Villanova’s averaging 73.8 PPG on 44.4% shooting from the field, 36.6% from three and 82.5% from the foul line while allowing 63.6 PPG on 41% shooting from the field and 31.9% from three this season.

St. John’s is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games while the under is 8-0 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. Villanova is 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS win while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win.

I get the case that can be made either way here, but I’m looking at the under. St. John’s brought the offense once again against DePaul on Wednesday but Villanova still brings a solid defense to the table in these high-pressure tournament spots and the two meetings this season finished under the total, granted, they went under the number just barely, but the total is higher in this game than in either of the first two meetings which seems to make little sense. Give me the under here.
