The Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Tech Red Raiders meet Friday in Big 12 Tournament college basketball action from Sprint Center. Oklahoma is sitting at 18-14 overall. The Sooners beat Baylor in tournament activity Thursday. As for Texas Tech, they’re currently 24-8 and coming off a Thursday tournament win over Iowa State. Oklahoma was 12-3 back on January 8, but the Sooners would win just two games in their next 13 outings. It’s been a different story lately; Oklahoma has beaten Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Kansas State and Baylor in their last four games.

Matched up against Baylor in the tournament game Thursday, the Sooners faced a 27-33 deficit by halftime. Oklahoma fought back on a 45-34 second-half run to take the 72-67 comeback upset. Tops in scoring was Jacob Groves with 15 points and nine boards.

Over on the Texas Tech side, they’ve had a few double-digit losses this year but overall they’ve been a great team. The Red Raiders are just 2-2 in their last four games though. Losses to TCU and Oklahoma State are mixed with wins over Kansas State and Iowa State in that stretch.

In the Thursday tourney game versus Iowa State, Texas Tech got off to a great start with a 39-20 first half. The Raiders cruised from there on a 33-21 run to take the 72-41 blowout victory. Leading the way was Terrence Shannon with 15 points and four rebounds.

PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Oklahoma but staying away. The Sooners played well versus Baylor, shooting 51 percent from the field with 35 rebounds and 18 team assists. Oklahoma’s offense has been working well lately; they’ve hit 72 or more points in three straight games.

As for Texas Tech, they won 66-42 the last time these teams met up, but lost the February 9 road matchup 70-55. It’s been a mixed bag with the Red Raiders these days and I don’t know if I trust them enough to take them on a cover. That said, this matchup should be a great one and could easily go either way.
