The Creighton Bluejays and the Kansas Jayhawks meet Saturday in NCAA Tournament Second Round action from Dickies Arena. Creighton is 23-11 overall this year. The Bluejays are coming off a tournament win over San Diego State. As for Kansas, they’re 29-6 this season and took out Texas Southern in their tournament matchup. Creighton was sitting at a spotty 13-8 back in early February. The Bluejays went on a nice run from there however, losing just twice in their next 11 games. In the conference tourney Creighton fell to Villanova, but the Bluejays were able to bounce back with a dramatic victory over San Diego State in their First Round game.

Matched up against San Diego State in tournament action Thursday, the Bluejays were down by seven going into the second half. Creighton forced overtime and ended up with a comeback 72-69 victory. Leading scorer Trey Alexander put up 18 points and Ryan Kalkbrenner (who was injured during the game) doubled with 16 points and 10 boards.

As for Kansas, they had a 2-2 stretch in February and lost consecutive games as March began. Aside from that though, the Jayhawks have had a pretty stellar run this year. Kansas is on a six-game win streak right now, the latest coming over Texas Southern.

In the Thursday tournament matchup versus Texas Southern, Kansas got off to a great 47-19 lead by halftime. The Jayhawks kept the pace from there in an 83-56 victory. Leading the way was Remy Martin on 15 points, and Christian Braun added 14 points with five rebounds.

PICK: I’m likely going to stay with Kansas here, even though the line is a little thick. The Jayhawks shot a nice 50 percent from the field in the Thursday game, along with 11-of-23 from 3-point range (47.8 percent) and 46 rebounds. Kansas is on a nice run over this six-game win streak, with 70 or more points in each outing.

As for Creighton, they get major credit for ending the season on a strong run. The Bluejays took out some tough teams along the way and have really been clicking. They’ve got a well-rounded team but the Kalkbrenner injury is trouble. I don’t know that Creighton will be able to adjust to his absence and maintain a cover pace on short notice.
