The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Texas A&M Aggies meet Wednesday in NIT college basketball action from Reed Arena. Wake Forest is 25-9 overall and coming off a tournament win over VCU. As for Texas A&M, they’re sitting at 25-12 so far. The Aggies beat Oregon in their most recent NIT matchup. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Wake Forest had a spotty 2-3 stretch in January and a 1-3 run in February but outside of that they’ve been a very consistent team this season. The Deacons lost to Boston college in OT during the conference tourney, but since then they’ve taken out Towson and VCU.

Matched up against VCU on Saturday, the Deacons were up 43-35 going into the second half. Wake Forest was outscored 37-39 from there but hung on for an 80-74 win. Leading scorer Alondes Williams put up 19 points with four rebounds and five assists.

Over on the Texas A&M side, their only bad stretch this year came in January/February. The Aggies went just 1-9 over a 10-game stretch, then won seven straight before falling to Tennessee in the conference tournament. Texas A&M has since taken out Alcorn State and Oregon in the NIT.

In the Oregon game over the weekend, the Aggies went into the break up by nine points. Texas A&M hit a 38-32 run in the second for a 75-60 win. Quenton Jackson put up 17 points with three rebounds, and Manny Obaseki added 11 points with seven boards.

The Aggies are 5-1 ATS in their last six at home and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. Texas A&M is 6-1 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Deacons are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 7-1 in Wake’s last eight overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Texas A&M. The Aggies are 9-1 in their last 10 games, with the lone blemish being a 15-point loss to a great Tennessee team. Texas A&M has scored 74 or more points in seven of those 10 games and should have a solid offensive outing here as well.

As for Wake Forest, they won’t go quietly. The Deacons have hit 68 or more points in 16 straight games; they should be able to counteract anything Texas A&M throws their way. In the end I think the Aggies can pull off a tight cover, but I’m probably staying away from this one.
