The Liberty Flames and the Alabama Crimson Tide meet Friday in college basketball action from Coleman Coliseum. Liberty is 1-0 following an opener blowout victory versus Regent VA. As for Alabama, they won their opener in a blowout as well, taking care of Longwood. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Liberty posted a 22-11 overall record in 2021-22, going 12-4 in Atlantic Sun games. The Flames finished in first place in the East Division, but fell to Bellarmine in the semifinals of the conference tournament to end their season.

The Flames got off to a nice start versus Regent VA in their opener this week. The Flames held a 55-17 edge by halftime and cruised to a 104-38 victory. Both Darius McGhee and Brody Peebles scored 17 points apiece to lead the team.

Over on the Alabama side, they managed a 19-14 overall record last season and a 9-9 run in Southeastern Conference matchups. The Tide landed in sixth place in the standings, ending their year with a First Round loss in the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama got right to work Monday with a victory over Longwood in their opener. The Tide scored 34 points in the first half on the way to a 75-54 win. Brandon Miller doubled on 14 points and 13 rebounds, as did Mark Sears with 12 points and 10 boards.

PICK: I’m going to lean Alabama but probably not touching it. The Tide did a good job on defense against Longwood, holding the Lancers to just 26.8 percent shooting from the field and eight assists. Alabama didn’t shoot all that hot themselves (39.1 percent) and made just 3-of-28 on 3-pointers but the whopping 67 rebounds certainly helped the cause. I like the Tide to tighten up the shooting in this one and post a cover.
