The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks and the Austin Peay Governors meet Thursday in college basketball action from Dunn Center. Southeast Missouri State is currently 11-13 on the year. The Redhawks beat SIU Edwardsville in their last game. As for Austin Peay, they’re sitting at 7-14 and coming off a loss to Belmont. Southeast Missouri State posted an ugly 6-11 run over their first 17 games, but they’ve been better since then. The Redhawks are on a 5-2 run with victories over Tennessee State, Eastern Illinois, SIUE, Eastern Illinois and SIUE again in that time.
On Monday versus SIU Edwardsville in the rematch, the Redhawks put up 40 points in the first half and 36 more in the second on the way to a 76-47 blowout win. Tops in scoring was Phillip Russell with 35 points and 10 rebounds.
Over on the Austin Peay side, they started the year on a 4-9 clip before hitting a 3-2 run in January. The last three games have all been losses for the Governors, though. They’ve fallen to Murray State, Morehead State and Belmont in that trio.
On Monday versus Belmont, the Governors had a 31-24 lead heading into the break. Austin Peay was outscored 27-48 from there in a 72-58 loss. Caleb Stone-Carrawell led the team with 16 bench points, two rebounds and a steal.
The Governors are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 at home and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win. Austin Peay is 5-1 ATS in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Redhawks are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 road games and 12-25-1 ATS in their last 38 after an ATS win. SEMO is 5-2 ATS in the last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with SEMO here. The Redhawks’ year didn’t start off so great but they’re playing much better lately. Southeast Missouri State has hit 76 or more points in four of their last five wins, and took out Austin Peay 98-79 back on January 1 the last time these teams met.
I’d like to think that the Governors will perform better in this rematch, but considering they’ve hit 58 or fewer points in each of the last three games I’m not so sure. This looks like a SEMO cover if they play decently.
