The Ohio Bobcats and Belmont Bruins meet Monday in college basketball action at the Curb Event Center Arena. The Ohio Bobcats are coming off a 25-win season. The Belmont Bruins are coming off a 25-win season.

The Ohio Bobcats enter the fourth year under coach Jeff Boals. Miles Brown returns after averaging 6.9 points and 2.5 rebounds, while Ben Roderick averaged 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds. IJ Ezuma played in almost 200 minutes last season and AJ Clayton averaged 2 rebounds. The Ohio Bobcats lose their top-3 scorers from last season, and there’s going to be serious adjusting early. Ohio does snag 3 transfers in Jaylin Hunter from Old Dominion, DeVon Baker from Tulane and Gabe Wiznitzer from Louisville. This is a new roster for Ohio, but this is a school that’s won 17 or more games in 10 of its last 13 seasons.

The Belmont Bruins enter the fourth year under coach Casey Alexander. Ben Sheppard returns after averaging 16.2 points and 3.9 rebounds, while EJ Bellinger averaged 3 points and 0.5 assists. Michael Shanks played 263 minutes last season, and Even Brauns played 240 minutes last season. The Belmont Bruins return their top player in Sheppard, but he’s on an island considering they lost their next seven scorers from a year ago. This a completely new roster for Belmont, and there could be growing pains early. The good news is Belmont is led by one of the better players in the OVC, and he’s gotten better in each of his first 3 seasons.

The Bobcats are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Bruins are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The under is 5-1 in Bobcats last 6 overall. The under is 6-2 in Bruins last 8 home games.

The Ohio Bobcats aren’t the same team from a year ago, and losing so much production makes them hard to trust early. The Belmont Bruins have a lot of production to replace as well, but they have one of the best players in the OVC and that should be enough to get them through the first few games until others catch on. We’re not being asked to lay much with a team with the best player on the court. Give me Belmont and the reasonable number.
