The Citadel Bulldogs and Clemson Tigers meet Monday in college basketball action at the Littlejohn Coliseum. The Citadel Bulldogs are coming off a 13-win season. The Clemson Tigers are coming off a 17-win season.
The Citadel Bulldogs have won 11 or more games in 5 of their last 6 seasons. Stephen Clark returns after averaging 9.7 points and 6.1 rebounds, while Rudy Fitzgibbons III averaged 7.9 points and 1.6 assists. Dylan Engler played in 35 minutes last season, and David Maynard averaged 2.2 rebounds. The Citadel Bulldogs lose their 3 double-digit scorers from last season, and that’s enough to expect some regression. However, Clark has gotten better in each of his first three seasons, and he has double-double potential as a senior. Fitzgibbons is also a knockdown shooter from the outside and could thrive with a more expanded role.
The Clemson Tigers enter the 13th season under coach Brad Brownell. PJ Hall returns after averaging 15.5 points and 5.8 rebounds, while Hunter Tyson averaged 10 points and 1.3 assists. Alex Hemenway played in 454 minutes last season, and Chase Hunter averaged 2.7 rebounds. Clemson lost some depth, including Al-Amir Dawes to a transfer, but Hall is a matchup nightmare for opponents and there’s still some size, length to this roster. Clemson gets Boston College transfer Brevin Galloway, who has produced 882 points and 216 rebounds in his college career that included 4 years at College of Charleston. Clemson will continue to be a thorn in the side of the ACC, as this team competes.
The Bulldogs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Tigers are 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The under is 7-1 in Bulldogs last 8 overall. The under is 4-1 in Tigers last 5 overall. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
The Clemson Tigers can be hit or miss offensively as they always thrive on defense and tough nosed play. However, Clemson has a head and shoulders better roster and should make life hell on The Citadel Bulldogs. Outside of a guy or two, The Citadel doesn’t have players who can create their own shot. Clemson should be able to wear this game down and pull away in the second half. I’ll lay the chalk.
