The Navy Midshipmen and the Coppin State Eagles meet Monday in college basketball action from Physical Education Complex. Navy is 2-0 this year following a close win over Princeton in their last outing. As for Coppin State, they’re 1-2 following a win over Mount St. Mary’s in their most recent appearance. Navy kicked off their 2022-23 season with a matchup versus William & Mary. The Midshipmen didn’t have much trouble in that one, posting 39 points in the first half during a 74-59 win. Leading the way was Tyler Nelson on 16 points and four boards.

In game two versus Princeton, Navy went into halftime with a 46-26 advantage. The Midshipmen had to scramble to get the W but ultimately took it 74-73. Sean Yoder led the team on 20 points and five rebounds.

Over on the Coppin State side, they began their year with a matchup versus Charlotte. The Eagles were outscored 45-32 in the first half in an 82-59 loss. Game two against Georgetown went better but Coppin State still took an overtime defeat 99-89.

The Eagles finally got into the win column in their last game versus Mount St. Mary’s. Coppin State surged in the second half for 49 points in an 83-78 win. Sam Sessoms was the top scorer with 28 points, five boards and five assists.

PICK: I’m likely going to stick with Navy. The Midshipmen have a couple of good performances in the books so far this year, even though they were outscored 47-28 in the second half of the Princeton game. As for Coppin State, they’ve played well over their last pair and nearly had a win versus Georgetown. I like the Eagles to keep pace for most of the game before Navy covers in a late push.
