The Western Carolina Catamounts and the Davidson Wildcats meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Belk Arena. Western Carolina is 4-5 overall this year. The Catamounts lost to USC Upstate in their last game. As for Davidson, they’re 6-3 after a loss to Delaware on Saturday. Western Carolina went 4-2 over their first six games this year. The wins in that span were versus Brescia, McNeese State, Lamar and Lindenwood. The Catamounts lost to UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb in the next pair.

On Saturday versus USC Upstate, the Catamounts took another loss. Western Carolina was down 43-35 by halftime and ended up losing 79-64. Tyzhaun Claude managed to double up in the loss with 17 points and 12 boards.

Over on the Davidson side, they went 3-1 over their first four games this year, beating Guilford, Wright State and VMI. The Wildcats hit another 3-1 run after that with wins over South Carolina, Old Dominion and San Francisco.

In the Saturday game versus Delaware, the Wildcats were down 34-23 by the break. Davidson posted 44 points in the second half but couldn’t come back in a 69-67 loss. Sam Mennenga topped the team on 20 points and nine boards.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Davidson here. The Wildcats had a bad first half against Delaware in their last game and a sub-par effort versus Charlotte last week. That said, Davidson should match up well in this one. The Wildcats have hit 66 or more points in every game so far and they’re generally playing well in comparable matchups. Western Carolina should be a manageable squad and I like Davidson to rebound with a big win/cover.
