The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and Iowa Hawkeyes meet Monday in college basketball action at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats are coming off a 9-win season. The Iowa Hawkeyes are coming off a 26-win season.

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats haven’t won single-digit games two years in a row since 2003-04. Joe French returns after averaging 15.8 points and 2.6 rebounds, while Kevin Davis averaged 14 points and 1.3 assists. Marcus Garrett is a third double-digit returning scorer, and Dylan Robertson averaged 6.1 rebounds. The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats return their top-4 scorers from last season and have a roster that’s absolutely loaded with juniors and seniors. It’s easy to overlook Bethune-Cookman after the season it just had, but this is a legit SWAC contender this season.

The Iowa Hawkeyes enter the 13th season under coach Fran McCaffery. Patrick McCaffery returns after averaging 10.5 points and 3.6 rebounds, while Kris Murray averaged 9.7 points and 1.1 assists. Filip Rebraca played in over 700 minutes last season, and Tony Perkins averaged 2.4 rebounds. The Iowa Hawkeyes say goodbye to their two best players in Keegan Murray and Jordan Bohannon, but they return pretty much everybody else. Iowa also snagged a talented and heavily recruited point guard in Dasonte Bowen. The Iowa Hawkeyes may not be as good as they were a year ago, but this is far from a pushover.

The Wildcats are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Monday games. The Hawkeyes are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The over is 7-1 in Wildcats last 8 overall. The over is 6-1 in Hawkeyes last 7 Monday games. The over is 19-7-1 in Hawkeyes last 27 home games.

The Iowa Hawkeyes aren’t as good as they’ve been in the past, but there’s enough talent to give the Wildcats fits. The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats aren’t used to playing this level of competition, and they’ve had issues beating teams on their level most nights. There’s no excuse for Iowa to not win this game by a comfortable margin. I’ll lay the chalk.
