The Northern Kentucky Norse and the IUPUI Panthers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Northern Kentucky is fresh off a Thursday matchup versus Wright State. The Norse ended up winning by 14 points. As for IUPUI, they’re sitting at 3-10 overall following a win over Texas A&M-Commerce in their last game. Northern Kentucky went just 2-4 over their first six games this year, beating only Cincinnati-Clermont and Cincinnati. The Norse hit a 5-2 run in the next seven with wins over TN Tech, Youngstown State, Robert Morris, Eastern Kentucky and Miami-Hamilton.
On Thursday versus Wright State, the Norse were up 33-29 going into the second half. Northern Kentucky hit a 45-35 run from there and won it 78-64. Chris Brandon doubled up on 12 points and 14 rebounds during the victory.
Over on the Panthers’ side, they went just 1-3 over their first four games (with a win over Franklin) and wouldn’t get another win until December 12 versus Spalding. IUPUI is 1-2 since then with losses to Eastern Illinois and Southern Indiana.
In the Texas A&M-Commerce matchup on December 20, the Panthers were up 32-28 by the break. The Jaguars posted a 30-24 run in the second half and won the game 62-52. Jlynn Counter put up 23 points with three rebounds to lead the team.
PICK: I’ll probably stick with Northern Kentucky. Also probably not going near this one; there’s not a ton of intrigue here. That said, the Norse are coming off a solid win over Wright State and they’ve scored 78 or more points in two of their last three outings. Northern Kentucky has 64 points or fewer in four of their last six as well, however.
As for IUPUI, they played pretty well in their win over Texas A&M-Commerce the last time out but the team simply hasn’t been doing well this year. I don’t think the Panthers will muster enough offense to stay in range here if Northern Kentucky gets going.
