The Vermont Catamounts and the Maine Black Bears meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Cross Insurance Center. Vermont is sitting at 24-5 so far this year. The Catamounts beat UMass Lowell in their last game. As for Maine, they’re 6-22 on the season and coming off a loss to UMBC. Vermont managed to go a spotty 6-4 over their first 10 games this year, but they’ve lost just one outing since then. The Catamounts are currently riding a four-game win streak over New Hampshire, UMBC, Binghamton and UMass Lowell.
In the UMass Lowell game on Saturday, the Catamounts hit a 32-25 pace in the first half. Vermont was outscored by six in the second but hung on for the 62-61 win. Ryan Davis was the lead scorer with 13 points and eight boards.
Over on the Maine side, they’ve had trouble finding traction this season and have yet to win consecutive games. The Black Bears are 1-4 in their last five outings with losses to Stony Brook, Hartford, Albany and UMBC.
In the UMBC matchup back on Saturday, the Bears were drilled 28-52 in the first half. Maine hit a 51-41 run from there but still lost 93-79. Leading the team in scoring was Make Klanjscek with 17 points and four rebounds.
Maine is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 Tuesday games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five at home. The Bears are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall. Vermont is 0-3-1 ATS in their last four Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m going to go with Vermont in this one. It’s a thick line though, so I could probably go either way. The Catamounts have had a couple of tight games over this 18-1 stretch, but overall they’re doing very well and beating teams handily. The last time these squads met up back on January 29, Vermont secured a dominant 81-68 victory at home. The Bears may have a better shot in the familiar surroundings, but the cover should still be in Vermont’s hands.
