Michigan vs Maryland 1/1/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Maryland Terrapins and the Michigan Wolverines meet Sunday in college basketball action from Crisler Center. Maryland is 10-3 on the year so far following a win over UMBC on Thursday. Maryland won eight straight games to kick off the season, then took their first loss to Wisconsin on December 6. The Terrapins followed that up with losses to Tennessee and UCLA before wins over Saint Peter’s and UMBC. 

Matched up against UMBC on Thursday, the Terrapins were only up 33-30 at the break. Maryland scored 47 points from there in an 80-64 win. Donald Carey scored 19 points to lead the way and Jahmir Young added 18 points. 

Over on the Michigan side, they went 5-1 over their first six games with a lone loss to Arizona State. The Wolverines are 2-4 since then, taking losses to Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Central Michigan in that time. 

In their game versus Central Michigan on Thursday, the Wolverines were up 28-27 at halftime. Michigan was outscored 36-33 from there and lost 63-61. Kobe Bufkin was the top scorer with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Maryland here. Some of the luster is gone from this one however, considering Michigan is struggling a bit right now. In any case, the Terrapins have looked good in the pair since their three-game losing streak, posting a combined 155 points over those two outings. Maryland has put up 71 or more points in each of their wins this year so they should score pretty well in this one also. As for Michigan, they need a good bounce-back performance after a lousy outing versus Central Michigan. The Wolverines have scored pretty well overall themselves this season but I don’t think they’ll cover/win.
