The DePaul Blue Demons and the Minnesota Golden Gophers meet Monday in college basketball action from Williams Arena. DePaul is sitting at 2-0 so far and coming off a win versus Western Illinois. DePaul’s season kicked off with a game versus Loyola MD. The Blue Demons scored 38 points in the first half and hung on for the win 72-66. DePaul’s leading scorer was Javan Johnson who doubled up on 24 points and 10 rebounds.
DePaul matched up against Western Illinois in game two. The Demons scored 42 points in the first half and 44 more from there in an 86-74 win. Umoja Gibson led the way with 24 points and eight assists. Da’Sean Nelson added 15 points and seven boards.
Over on the Minnesota side, they barely got by a pesky Western Michigan team in their opener. The Gophers scored just 26 second-half points but still notched the 61-60 win. Dawson Garcia was the top scorer with 23 points and seven rebounds.
In game two, the Gophers faced St. Francis BK. This game went a lot smoother, and Minnesota scored 37 first-half points in an eventual 72-54 win. Jaden Henley put up 16 points, and both Pharrel Payne and Joshua Ola-Joseph added 12 points apiece.

PICK: I’m going to try DePaul. The Blue Demons haven’t been especially overpowering in their two games so far this year but they’ve been consistent. DePaul shot 58.9 percent from the field and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the line in their win over Western Illinois. The Blue Demons bagged 33 rebounds and 14 assists along the way; they’ve been a pretty solid all-around team in their first pair.
Granted, Minnesota should provide quite a challenge for DePaul. The Gophers had a close escape in the opener but got right back to business in game two. This should be another competitive matchup.
