The American Eagles and the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers meet in college basketball action from the Knott Arena on Tuesday night.
The American Eagles will look to build on an 88-62 win over Albany in their last outing. Matt Rogers leads American in scoring and rebounding with 12.1 PPG and 5.9 RPG while Geoff Sprouse and Colin Smalls each have 11.7 PPG on the year. Johnny O’Neil has 10.2 PPG and 5.2 RPG to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for American up to this point in the season while Elijah Stephens has a team-high 4.4 APG to lead the Eagles in assists this season. As a team, American is averaging 68.9 PPG on 48.3% shooting from the field, 36.6% from three and 77% from the foul line this season.
The Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers will try to bounce back after a 68-65 loss to Rider last time out. Jalen Benjamin leads the Mountaineers in scoring and assists with 19 PPG and 4.7 APG while Dakota Leffew has 12.4 PPG and Malik Jefferson has 10.2 PPG with a team-high 7.6 RPG to lead the Mountaineers on the glass and to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Mount St. Mary’s this season. George Tinsley also has 6.3 RPG as well for the Mountaineers this season. As a team, Mount St. Mary’s is averaging 67.7 PPG on 41.3% shooting from the field, 35.9% from behind the arc and 69.1% from the foul line this season.
American is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Mount St. Mary’s is 23-11 ATS in their last 34 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 home games.
I’ll give Mount St. Mary’s credit as they’ve been doing a good job covering the underdog role and occasionally winning games outright as well. However, American’s been doing well getting points as well, and the Eagles have just the better offense that’s hitting their shots more consistently. I think American has a shot to win this one outright, but I’ll take the points to be safe.
