Murray State vs Austin Peay 12/16/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Austin Peay Governors and the Murray State Racers meet Friday in college basketball action from CFSB Center. Austin Peay is 6-5 overall this year. The Governors beat Lindsey Wilson in their last game. As for Murray State, they’re 6-4 on the season and coming off a win over Chicago State. Austin Peay went 3-3 over their first six games this year, falling to NC State, Purdue and Bucknell. Since then it’s been a 3-2 run for the Governors with wins versus Tennessee State, Kentucky Christian and Lindsey Wilson. 

On Monday versus Lindsey Wilson, the Governors posted 48 points in the first half and 38 more in the second on the way to an 86-61 blowout win. Sean Durugordon led the scoring with 18 points and six rebounds. 

Over on the Murray State side, they were also 3-3 over their first six with losses to Saint Louis, UMass and Chattanooga. The Racers have since gone 3-1 with victories over Illinois State, Valparaiso and Chicago State. 

In the Chicago State game, the Racers were down 42-27 after a rough first half. Murray State hit a 39-23 run in the second for an excellent comeback win 66-65. JaCobi Wood scored 24 and DJ Burns doubled up on 18 points and 14 rebounds. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Austin Peay. This should be a pretty fun matchup, though. The Governors have been scoring well over their last four games with 74 or more in each outing. Austin Peay has a couple of relatively easy matchups mixed in there—that said, the Governors’ last two losses have only come by one point each. As for Murray State, they’re on a solid 3-1 run over their last four games. There have been a couple of close calls in there however, including Tuesday’s comeback. Austin Peay should put up a better fight and it should also be a great game.
