The Princeton Tigers and the Navy Midshipmen meet Friday in college basketball action from Navy Alumni Hall. Princeton is 0-1 so far following an opener loss to Hofstra. As for Navy, they’re coming off a big win over William & Mary in their opener. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Princeton managed to go 23-7 overall last year and 12-2 in their Ivy League games. The Tigers got a regular-season championship out of that effort, but only made it to the NIT following a conference tourney loss to Yale. Princeton lost in the First Round of the NIT to VCU.

The Tigers faced off against Hofstra in their first game this year. Everything was looking good after a 42-38 first half, but the Tigers faded in an 83-77 loss. Tosan Evbuomwan managed 22 points with seven boards, and Keeshawn Kellman added 21 points.

Over on the Navy side, they went 21-11 overall in 2021-22 with a 12-6 run in Patriot League play. The Midshipmen finished in second place in the standings behind only Colgate. Navy lost to the Raiders in the conference tournament championship game.

Navy got off to a good start in their first game despite only leading by two points at the break. The Midshipmen improved from there and muscled out a 74-59 win. Tyler Nelson led the way with 16 points and four rebounds in 32 minutes of work.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Navy. The Midshipmen had a pretty solid all-around game versus William & Mary in their opener, shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 47.6 (10-of-21) from 3-point range. Navy added 38 rebounds and 15 assists during the win. As for Princeton, they shot a nice 49.2 percent from the field and out-rebounded Hofstra 35-31 in their opener but couldn’t stop the hot-shooting Pride. I do like Princeton to pick it up and play better here, so it should be an interesting matchup.
