The Norfolk State Spartans and the Nevada Wolf Pack meet in college basketball action from the Lawlor Events Center on Wednesday.

The Norfolk State Spartans will try to build on their current four-game win streak after a 70-66 win over North Carolina A&T in their last game. Joe Bryant Jr. leads the Spartans in scoring with 15.5 PPG along with 4.3 RPG and 3.4 APG while Kris Bankston has 13.7 PPG with a team-high 7.1 RPG to lead the Spartans in rebounding up to this point in the year. Cahiem Brown has 12.6 PPG with 4.7 RPG and Christian Ings has 10.9 PPG with a team-high 3.8 APG to lead the Spartans in assists up to this point in the year while also rounding out the group of double-digit scorers for Norfolk State up to this point in the season. As a team, Norfolk State is averaging 75.1 PPG on 46.7% shooting from the field, 33.3% from three and 70.8% from the foul line this season.

The Nevada Wolf Pack will try to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last five games after a 64-56 win over UC-San Diego last time out. Jarod Lucas leads the Wolf Pack in scoring with 16.8 PPG while Kenan Blackshear has 14 PPG with 5.5 RPG and 5.2 APG to lead the Wolf Pack in assists up to this point in the season. Will Baker also has 11.5 PPG with 4.7 RPG to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Nevada so far this year while Darrion Williams has 6.8 PPG and a team-high 7.2 RPG of his own so far this year. As a team, Nevada is averaging 72.6 points per game on 42.5% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the three point line and 78.2% from the foul line this season.

Norfolk State is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. Nevada is 6-1 in their last 7 home games and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall while the over is 16-6 in their last 22 home games against a team with a losing road record.

I get the case to be made for either side in this game, but I’m firmly backing Nevada here. Nevada has been playing a lot better than I had anticipated they would coming into this season and not only that, this is a Nevada team that takes care of the basketball and limits their opponents chances for fast break opportunities. I just think that at home with a solid defense that is built to shut down the Spartans from 2-point range, which is where Norfolk State is at their best, I think this is a spot for Nevada to get it done at home. Give me the Wolf Pack here.
